Description of Results
The MySQL seasons table is used to display the astronomical cycle icons for
those dates they fall on in my calendar application. These will vary slightly from year to
year (depending on leap years), and also on your location on the Earth. My location is the District of Columbia,
which is in the Northern Hemisphere and in the EST timezone (-0500 UTC). More
information on seasonal cycles can be found at the Wikipedia pages on Equinox and Solstice.
The Cardinal signs, and their corresponding seasonal cycles are:
- :: Vernal Equinox
- :: Summer Solstice
- :: Autumnal Equinox
- :: Winter Solstice
Like all the tables being used by the calendar, these are designed for very fast look-ups
in order to avoid complicated and time-consuming calculations. The most complex of all
being moon_phases.
And also the most interesting.
