Web Developer Resource Index: Open Source
What is Open Source? Software that is generally developed by a community of
programmers and other volunteers, distributed free of charge (for the most
part) and with complete source code so the user may understand and modify
the software if they see fit.
This is the philosophy of Open Source in a nutshell: If I fix a flaw, add a feature, or otherwise improve the software, then everyone else that uses and contributes may benefit as well. Open source is social software.
For an authoritative resource on this topic, visit the Open Source Definition.
Support open-source and open-standards, the Web runs on it!
